AND THAT'S HOW THEY DIDN'T CALL ME BACK!

You know when you get so hopeful and already 'spend' the money you haven't made? I bet it happens to most of us in business. They get your number from your former roommate's ex-boyfriend's cousin's best friend. They call and express such delight with all they've heard about your teaching skills, how they wanna employ you to handle dance and fitness sessions for their staff, and then... They just never call back! To be very frank, when this happens to me and I begin to feel disappointed, I realize it is because I am not counting my blessings. For me, such usually happens when I am in need and my account is crying for restoration. I pray, I hope, and then I receive that call. I get so excited, I begin to plan - call my dancers, make song selections, mentally create the choreography, and brainstorm on bargaining my fee - but they somehow do not call me back. From feeling like God has come through for me, I slip into disappointment. Why would people just call and ask very specifically about your services, give you date, venue and time, then never call back to follow up? in order not to make a blind conclusion, I decide to call back (just in case their phone crashed after calling me and they lost my number). I call, he says, "Oh madam, I thought I sent you a text? We decided that the performance wasn't needed again..." Oh for the sparks in my brain at that point. Okay, let us put the blame on network then. To engage my services certainly is not by force, but the issue is that when you decide to change your mind or circumstances arise that will not make previous plans possible, please be courteous to send a text at the very least. Simple.

What I have learnt from this is not to kick-start my plans until part-payment is made. Ofcourse there would be times when beyond either parties' control, a job would need to be cancelled. For such times, I count my gain - adding new choreography to my repertoire (that would come in handy in the future), increasing in strength and physical fitness from the extra hours I put into rehearsals (it never hurts to get even stronger), and also a potential customer for the future :)
