EXERCISE: Physical exercise vs. Spiritual exercise (Pt. 1)

Happy New Year!!!
I am so glad you made it to 2018. God indeed is FAITHFUL, so please be GRATEFUL!

I have so much cooking for this year and it gives me so much excitement. To kick-start 2018, I will be doing a four-part blog series highlighting the similarities between physical and spiritual exercise. The inspiration (and most of the content) came to me late last year as I began my weight-loss journey post second baby. In the midst of motivating myself to workout, I found out that exercise - physical and spiritual - have quite a number of things in common. So, I decided the best time to share these with you is at the start of this new year so you can find some motivation/inspiration to improve yourself physically and spiritually, sooner than later...

One definition of exercise says; "Something performed or practiced in order to develop, improve, or display a specific capability or skill."

1.  IT IS TOUGH!!!
Do not be deceived for a second, exercise is tough! Whether it is physical or spiritual, exercise involves pushing your entire being to do much more than the average person would do. With spiritual exercise, your aim is to subject the flesh as much as possible so that your spirit-man is activated. To accomplish this you have to pray at all times, study and abide by God's Word and you have to FAST. I don't know about you but the day I decide to fast always happens to be the day food hasn't smelt yummier! There are times you would have to go through extended periods of fasting - you would get to the stage where your tummy would recline and your body would be shaking in desperate need to munch ANYTHING you can get your hands on. You would pray till your knees feel numb from kneeling for hours. You could lose your voice from singing praises for hours to evoke God's presence. You would *P.U.S.H. and give all to establish a deeper relationship with God and to develop a higher level of maturity in the spirit realm. For physical exercise, you better be ready to sweat! I strongly believe you should enjoy whatever form of exercise you choose to keep doing but I also know that if it doesn't get you sweating, if it doesn't work parts of your body till they feel sore, and if it doesn't skyrocket your heart rate, you are not improving. That is what I call 'WERRRK'! You have to **P.U.S.H. for results. That's the only way you can get that dream body that would last.
Do you have all-round fitness goals? Then prepare your spirit, soul and body because nothing good/great comes easy. But you know what? You can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens you!

  1. Totally true.
If we are going to see lasting results, we soon realize there has to be an intentionality to everything
