EXERCISE: Physical exercise vs. Spiritual exercise (Pt. 2)

Here is the continuation from the series which I began last week. If you have not read part one, please read here - http://dmcbytamara.blogspot.com.ng/2018/01/exercise-physical-exercise-vs-spiritual.html

One definition of exercise says; "Something performed or practiced in order to develop, improve, or display a specific capability or skill."

2. YOU NEED TO FOCUS
Sometimes, we look at our bodies and find some 'trouble spots'. When I was trying so hard to loose weight after nursing my sons, I found out fat was leaving some parts of my body faster than the others. My stomach was the first to go down and that really gave me joy! Stomach - check! Hips and thighs - No check! My lower body was a struggle. I had stayed active and eaten healthy about 70% of the time and for two months I didn't loose an inch from my thighs. It was frustrating. I then made the decision to not only do cardio and strength training but to focus on lower body workouts like lunges, squats and pulses. When trying to burn off fat from a particular part of your body or even build the muscles in a particular part, a fitness instructor would tell you to keep your mind fixed on that part and go for it. Every time I lunged and squatted I would aggressively fix my mind on my hips, thighs and butt as I squeezed those muscles. Why? Believe it or not, it's part of what makes the workout effective. By the time I'm done working out, I would feel those areas burning intensely and I knew I was making progress. For spiritual exercise, your focus should be on connecting with your Maker. So when you wake up to pray, praise and worship, your gaze must be fixed on Him. If you're praying and thinking of all the bills you need to pay, or the soup you forgot on the stove, you really aren't connecting. When you don't connect, you don't grow. You remain a babe in the kingdom, drinking milk rather than graduating to eating solid food. Another way to look at this spiritually is when you have to build a part of your character - for instance, to navigate my business in this modern day, I knew I had to start out specially ask God for wisdom. God's wisdom is not the wisdom of the world, not being street smart, but being able to comprehend things in a higher dimension with constant ideas flowing from His Throne Room. To achieve this, I had to focus on building my wisdom muscle by studying and meditating on the Book of Proverbs. Focus is key to succeeding, so focus, focus, focus!
