DANCE FITNESS VS. AEROBICS
I went somewhere recently and the host introduced me to the audience as an Aerobics instructor. You should have seen the look on my face - well, more like the look on my face that I made in my mind! I have no issue with the word AEROBICS but I am just not an aerobics instructor. I am a DANCE FITNESS INSTRUCTOR. So, I took the MIC and corrected the notion. Trust me. 😀
So what is AEROBICS? Aerobic exercise is ANY physical activity that makes you sweat, causes you to breathe harder, and gets your heart beating faster than at rest. It strengthens your heart and lungs and trains your cardiovascular system to manage and deliver oxygen more quickly and efficiently throughout the body. It is also called "CARDIO".
What is DANCE FITNESS? Dance fitness is a form of CARDIO/AEROBIC exercise that incorporates various forms of dance styles.
Errr... So Tamara, what is the fuss about being called an Aerobics instructor? Isn't Dance a form of aerobics?
Let me explain it this way: We have FRUITS. There are so many in this world, but let us take apples. Look at a green apple. It is a fruit no doubt, but when you go to the market do you say; "Please can I buy fruit?" or "Please can I buy apples?" With the first question, the fruit seller would certainly ask you, "Which one?" Apples are fruits, and so are mangoes, oranges, pineapples etc. You must specify. The farmer who plants apples may not necessarily understand how to plant bananas nor coconuts though they are ALL FRUITS. So when I say I am not an Aerobics instructor, I simply do not want to be generalized. Aerobics is such a wide range - from dancing, to swimming, kickboxing, to walking, biking, and so many more. What I am specialized in and love to do is Dance fitness. Zumba® Fitness, for instance, is a special form of Dance fitness. So it's like there are fruits (Aerobics) and there are apples - a type of fruit (Dance Fitness) and then there are green apples (Zumba). Am I making sense to you? I hope!
Please feel free to label me a Dance fitness instructor, and a Zumba fitness instructor. I will take those tags any day any time because they best describe my fitness specialty and certification, but please do not generalize me by calling me Aerobics instructor.
