OVERNIGHT SUCCESS?

It is very funny how people use the phrase - 'overnight success'. You hear of someone who just made it 'overnight' as if they had been sleeping since. Many-a-times, the so-called stars we fall in love with have had years of honing their skills in one way or the other. The fact that you just discovered them this morning does not mean it was their first effort. It could have been their third, twentieth or even hundredth venture in that field. It would be disastrous to sit lazily on your bed waiting for that 'big break'. Nope. You will only ruin yourself. Get up off your butt and WORK! It's great to have big dreams but what have you done with the little ones? Do you not realize that it is little drops of water that make a great river? To really succeed, you must be diligent and remain consistent consistently. It is not a one day on and three days off - thing.

My husband was hosting a radio show a few weeks back and he asked a question - "DO YOU WANT TO TREND OR YOU WANT TO LAST?" Some people want to trend and enjoy hype for a short period but others, like me, want to last in my field. And this lasting has to be one that is evident of growth and expansion. When you last, you become highly influential. That really is the goal. It is actually very selfish to think you don't need to touch someone else's life. God created us for influence. As God's children, we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. A city set on a hill that can never be hidden. Let lasting influence be on your mind at all times.

So when next you see the headline "... an overnight success" do not give it literal thoughts because it sends an incomplete message. It doesn't do the youth much good to make them feel like they do not need to persist. It sends a message of laziness and a microwave-mentality in business. True success does not happen overnight. It is a product of different seasons - the seasons of gestation, brainstorming/strategizing, of hard work and smart work, the season of lack and delayed gratification, season of travailing in obscurity, and then the season of birth which is the time when the world eventually gets to see and appreciate your skill.  Keep at it and you will reach your goal by God's special grace.

Love.
